At our February Department meeting held on February 6, 2025 memebrs were recognized for actions taken on calls the previous year. Report given by Honor and Awards Chairman Ex-Captain Ryan Kienle. On August 11th, 2024 @1729 hours the Lindenhurst Fire Department was toned out for a signal 16 adult male respiratory difficulty at 512 W Montauk Highway. Lieutenant Maiorano was the chauffeur of 1-6-7 and upon arrival the crew observed the patient sitting on a curb conscious and alert but, clearly in distress. The patient was placed onto the stretcher and moved to the ambulance by Chief Collins and Lieutenant Maiorano while the rest of the crew setup the back of the ambulance. While moving the patient to the ambulance the crew observed that he was cool, pale, diaphoretic and stated “Please help me”. EMT Piegari obtained blood glucose levels while Paramedic Pisano started taking patient vitals and a weak carotid pulse was observed. Lieutenant Maiorano began administering oxygen and the patient started to decline. Paramedic Pisano advised EMT Piegari to start a 12 lead while she applied the AED pads and prepped medication. Paramedic Pisano then checked again for a pule and found none to be present. LT Maiorano then switched the non rebreather to a BVM and began bagging the patient while Chief Collins applied the Lucas device and started compressions. The patients jaw became clinched and LT Maiorano inserted an OPA with the assistance of EMT Piegari. EMT Piegari then took over bagging while Paramedic Pisano inserted an IO into the patients right shin. Paramedic Pisano administered and Chief Collins took over bagging so that EMT Piegari could setup the suction. After the patient was suctioned Paramedic Pisano intubated the patient and EMT Piegari continued rescue breathing. Chief Cutolo who was on scene became the driver of the ambulance so LT Maiorano and EMT Piegari could remain in the back to assist Medic Pisano. CPR continued all the way to the hospital while Medic Pisano administered additional doses of EPI. CPR was paused as 1-6-7 went signal 6 at Good Samaritan University Hospital and the crew observed ROSC. At 1800hrs the patient was transferred to ED staff without further incident.
