On Monday May 29th 2023 the Lindenhurst Fire Department held it's annual Memorial Day Services before participating in the parade with services taking place at Firemans Park. The day began with a review of the departments apparatus and membership by Village Officials. Services began with Chief of Department David Collins welcoming everybody. After an opening prayer and moment of silence, Chief Collins read of the names of Department and Ladies Auxiliary members who passed away in the last year. Wreaths were placed at the memorials and the playing of the National Anthem and Taps to commemorate those members. The Department then turned to see the unveiling of a new Veterans Memorial with the names of department members who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces during peace and war time. A wreath was also placed at this memorial along with the playing of the National Anthem and Taps to commemorate those members. The Veterans Memorial was designed by a committee of department members who all served in the United States Armed Forces, Ex- Captain Joseph Muratore (Chemical and Salvage Co.2, United States Army), Ex-Captain James Sullivan (Liberty Hose Co.1, United States Marine Corps.), Ex- Captain John Tighe Sr. (Hook Ladder & Engine Co.2, United States Marine Corps.), Ex- Chief Michael McCloud (Chemical and Rescue Co.1, United States Air Force), Ex- Chief Craig Santoli (Union Hook & Ladder Co.1, United States Navy), Ex- Chief James Gallagher (Breslau Engine Co.1, United States Marine Corps.
